Club Rules and Etiquette

Students will treat everyone with respect and dignity, and encourage others to do their best at all times. If another person insults your art or skill, bear their insult graciously.

Students will try their best, at all times, to be good martial artists, and Christians, and uphold the values of the club.

  1. Students must be on time for class. This means arriving at least 15 minutes before the start of class to allow time to get changed and use the washroom if needed.
  2. If a student needs to leave the training room for any reason, they must first request permission from an instructor. For safety reasons, instructors must know where students are at all times.
  3. Late arrivals and students coming back into the training area should enter quietly. Students must stand at the back of the training area in a ready position, where they can be seen by the instructors, and watch carefully to be allowed to join. An instructor will lead them through a quick warm-up before allowing them to join class. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, they will not be permitted to join class.
  4. Students are expected not to talk during class. It is disruptive to other students and the instructor(s).
  5. Students are encouraged to ask questions in a respectful manner by raising their hand and waiting to be called on. This is to create a positive learning environment, and ensure that questions do not become a distraction.
  6. Shoes are not to be worn in the training rooms. This allows the training rooms to stay clean. Students are welcome to bring indoor shoes to wear in the hallway and washrooms.
  7. Keep finger and toe nails short and clean. This is for safety so that no one gets cut or breaks nails off during partner drills.
  8. Jewelry or watches of any kind should not be worn while training. This is for safety and includes wedding rings. Earrings can get caught and pulled out or fingers can be sprained and prevent rings from being removed. If earrings can’t be removed, they must be covered with tape.
  9. No food, water or gum in the training area. This helps keep the training area clean and prevents people from choking. Water bottles may be kept in the water bottle cart outside of Room 3.
  10. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that their uniform fits correctly, and is kept clean and in a good state of repair.
  11. Students shall not use profane or crude forms of language. Conversation should be positive and uplifting.
  12. Never borrow someone else’s equipment without permission.
  13. Absolutely NO sparring or self-defence training without adequate supervision by an instructor.
  14. Students must NOT teach anyone new forms or techniques unless explicitly told to do so by an instructor. Students CAN, however, train with and help their teammates practice forms and techniques they both already know.
  15. All students must have permission from an instructor before using punching bags, weapons and training equipment.
  16. When attending tournaments, demonstrations, or activities with other schools, students must always conduct themselves courteously. Each member, student and instructor alike are ambassadors, not only of our club, but more importantly, for Christ.
