About Jr. Laoshi Ruby

Jr. Laoshi Ruby has been training in Shaolin Kung-Fu since she was 12 years old, and has recently earned her green belt in May of 2026. In addition to Kung-fu training, she also has competed in multiple martial arts tournaments in Ontario, including Karate For Christ Canada’s
annual Shiais, Kitchener Kicks’ annual Karate Maynia, the Canadian Karate Kung-Fu Association’s 17th annual tournament in the Waterloo region, and the Canadian Budoka Karate Championships in Sudbury.

She values learning more about different martial arts through the
tournaments and enjoys building new connections with fellow competitors. She believes that at every competition, there is something new that can be learned.

Jr. Laoshi Ruby first started helping to teach at age 13 and has continued, growing and developing as an instructor over the years. She loves to run good warmups and quick-paced technique exercises, encouraging her students to continually improve their skills and to do their best.

Jr. Laoshi Ruby is certified in basic first aid and CPR and has completed several courses through the Coaching Association of Canada including courses on Mental Health in Sport, Intercultural Skills in Sport, Supporting Individuals on the Autism Spectrum in Sports, and Mental Health in High Performance Coaching. These certifications reflect her commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all of her students, everywhere she serves.

Outside of martial arts, Ruby enjoys camping, spending time with friends, reading and playing with her dog, and is currently a student at Eastwood Collegiate Institute.

Her favourite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord
as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”, a great reminder to serve the Lord in everything you do.
