About Laoshi Sarah
Laoshi Sarah has been training in Shaolin Kung-Fu since 2014, and is currently preparing for her black belt grading in September 2026. In addition to her 12 years of Kung-fu training, she also has some martial arts training in Shindo Ryu Jujitsu, Goju-Ryu Karate Doh, Wushu, Sanda and Hung Kuen Kung-Fu. She highly values the different perspectives and styles in each discipline of martial arts and enjoys bringing what she learns at other clubs back to share with Kung-fu for Christ.
Laoshi Sarah first started helping to teach in 2016 and has continued, growing and developing as an instructor over the years. She loves to run challenging classes, encouraging all of her students to put in their best effort and continually push themselves to improve their skills and abilities. Her favourite Bible verse is Mark 10:27: “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.’” This verse serves as a powerful reminder to never place limits on what we can do when we rely on God as our strength.
Laoshi Sarah is certified in basic First Aid and CPR and has completed several courses through the Coaching Association of Canada including courses on Mental Health in Sport, Anti-Racism in Coaching, Intercultural Skills in Sport, Diversity and Inclusion in Action, and Supporting Individuals on the Autism Spectrum in Sports. These certifications reflect her commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all of her students, no matter their background or abilities.
Outside of martial arts, Laoshi Sarah loves to stay active by kayaking, rock climbing and skiing. She also enjoys reading, learning languages, playing the piano and puzzling. She is studying Applied Mathematics with a teaching specialization and French minor at the University of Waterloo.
